In 1961, the World Customs Organization adopted the Customs Convention on the ATA carnet for the Temporary Admission of Goods, and then adopted the Convention on the Temporary Admission of Goods in 1990, thus establishing and perfecting the ATA carnet system. After the system was put into practice in 1963, 62 countries and regions have implemented the ATA carnet system, and 75 countries and regions have accepted the ATA carnet, which has become the most important customs document for temporarily allowing imported goods to use.
In 1993, China joined the ATA Customs Convention on the Temporary Admission of Goods, the Convention on the Temporary Admission of Goods and the Convention on Exhibitions and Trade Fair. Since January, 1998, China has started to implement the ATA carnet system.

1. What is the composition of ATA carnet?

An ATA document book must include a cover, a back cover, a stub and a voucher, among which the customs clearance documents are printed in different colors according to their purposes.
China's current ATA carnet is printed according to the new ATA carnet format that came into effect on December 18th, 2002, and the logo and cover of China ATA carnet are designed.

2. Is there an expiration date for ATA carnet?
Yes. According to the Customs Convention on ATA Documentary Books on Temporary Import of Goods, the validity period of ATA Documentary Books is up to one year. This time limit cannot be extended, but if the task cannot be completed within the validity period, you can renew the document book.

.
